Playlist Update: May 13, 2023

This week, I’ve added three new tracks to the official Squawkin’ Good Radio playlist. Beach Fossils have released a fourth single from their forthcoming album Bunny, one of my most anticipated albums of the year. Momma, who made my year end top 20 of 2022 with their song “Lucky”, also have a new single that I’ve been listening to a lot. Finally, we have a track from Narrow Head, a band who are new to me but have been around for a while, and their latest album Moments Of Clarity is one of the highlights of the year so far.

New adds:

Beach Fossils “Seconds”

Momma “Bang Bang”

Narrow Head “Sunday”

Off this week:

Belle & Sebastian “Give A Little Time”

Jeen “Chemical Emotion”

Purr “Drift”

Your 2016 Squawkin’ Good Showdown Champions: Alabama Shakes!

Congratulations to Alabama Shakes! They defeated Tame Impala by a score of 62.5% to 37.5% to claim the title of this year’s Squawkin’ Good Showdown champion! They will be honored with one of their songs played on Squawkin’ Good Radio each week for the next 12 weeks after their victory.

Thanks to everyone who voted in Squawkin’ Good Showdown! This has been the most successful March Madness tournament I’ve done on WRUV since I did the first one 3 years ago.

Check back here soon, I will be putting up a Spotify playlist of Alabama Shakes best songs, plus some cool covers and remixes.

Squawkin’ Good Showdown – There’s still time to vote!

On next Wednesday’s edition of Squawkin’ Good Radio, we’re kicking off Squawkin’ Good Showdown, a musical March Madness tournament where 32 of Squawkin’ Good Tunes/WRUV listeners’ favorite artists will go head to head. The twist this year is you, not me, get to decide which artists compete this year! Vote in the survey below for which artists you would like to compete. The 32 artists who get the most votes will be selected and the first round will kick off on Squawkin’ Good Radio on Wednesday, where I will play a song from each artist you voted into the Top 32! Those artists will compete for a spot in the Squawky Sixteen, who will be played on the following week’s show.

If you are unable to view the survey below, you can vote here as well.

Squawkin’ Good Radio Debuts Tonight!

Tonight is the debut of Squawkin’ Good Radio on WRUV! Tune in from 8-10 pm on 90.1 FM in Burlington, VT or listen online at wruv.org.

This show takes over from Flight of the Squawkatiel. You’ll still hear the same types of music you heard on that show, but Squawkin’ Good Radio will follow a less rigid format. Instead of one hour of new music followed by one themed hour of music from my collection, I will be playing a mix of my favorite new songs throughout the entire show with some older songs mixed in. This show will also be more flexible for listener requests (within reason). You’ll be hearing selections from my favorite new albums as well as new unsigned, independent artists discovered on Soundcloud or elsewhere.

Tonight you’ll be hearing new tracks from DIIV, Sunflower Bean, Animal Collective, Pillar Point, Daughter, High Highs, and Rob Crow’s Gloomy Place, plus a bunch of other surprises.

If you miss tonight’s show, you can stream it for up to a week after its air date at http://wruv.org/schedule/wednesday
